Nowadays it is
fashionable for the regular citizen to care about the environment. Honestly,
the human being as a race is making little to no effort to care about the
environment as a whole. In some cities, smog levels grow so high that it
becomes impossible to survive in them. Noise pollution afflict people with
stress and the busy city life leaves us with little time to care about living a
cleaner and healthier life.
Regardless, there are
people who, without leaving much aside, make an effort to keep the air clean
and I am one of them. I have a friend who's part of a recycling ONG and has
attempted to make me join but, I haven't been able to participate. Anyhow, he
has taught me some practical techniques that I do put in practice, such as
clasifying trash; paper on the one side, vegetables on another and plastics on
another bag...we take plastic bottles to a friend's since he has a project to
turn them into bio-bricks, which are plastic bottles which nobody uses anymore
and people place trash inside in order to build things with them. We also use
low consume light bulbs and we unplug everything before leaving home, except
the fridge of course, for obvious reasons. We have a car but only mom uses it
to go to work and some other ocations, such as when we visit my grandma and we
don't have much time. On other ocations, we use public transport...and also to
save money. I'd love to use my bicycle to go wherever I wanted, but I live very
far away from everywhere, and I think only a sportsman would be able to go from
Puente Alto to the city center...and I'm no athlete myself.
Chile should be wary of
pollution such as in Mexico or China. Without laws, it won't be possible.
It's alarming how polluted is the air, few days ago I saw some pictures of China where the people was with this gas mask because what they breath wasn'r air, it was just venom!
